Here's how your support helped us stand up against housing injustice.
We advised 22,644 households through our emergency helpline
Our helpline has been busier than ever during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. But thanks to your support, we recruited 25 more helpline advisors last year. And we answered around 118 calls per day, up from 61 on the year before. Your help meant fewer people faced housing struggles alone.
66% of homeless households we supported found somewhere to live
With your support, we could help families like Fiona's, who were at risk of losing everything. They had been served notice and their flat was unliveable. It had leaks, mould, damp, and broken cooker and beds. But at their lowest point, we could help them defend their rights. Now, Fiona's family is no longer at risk of homelessness.
69% of families who contacted us said their life improved
We're making change happen for families across the country. Since the pandemic began, over 130,000 supporters like you signed our petition calling on the government to ban evictions, give renters financial support and review housing benefit. Together, we can give everyone the basic human right of a safe place to live.
Itʼs hard to breathe in the mornings. Each time I have a shower, I come back out and I feel dirty again. I went on Shelter’s website – I just started writing what I felt, sent some photos and that was it. From there, the whole thing just blew right open. They’ll do everything in their power to help you.
