Draft letter: Let's fix bad housing in the Queen's Speech

Unsafe, unaffordable and unfit housing is holding people back. Private renters are living in mouldy homes, fearing eviction if they complain to their landlord. Social renters are being ignored by their landlords who are failing to keep their homes safe. And children are growing up in temporary accommodation, sharing one tiny room with their family, waiting years for a social home.

The government has promised three pieces of legislation which have the potential to end bad housing for good:

  1. A levelling up bill, to build a new generation of good quality social homes

  2. The Renters Reform Bill, to fix private renting

  3. A bill to regulate social housing, to ensure the voices of those in social housing are never ignored again

Let's bring all of these bills forward without delay and make this year's Queen's Speech a pivotal moment in the fight to ensure everyone has access to a safe, affordable, secure home.
