Join Shelter Training as a freelance trainer

Shelter are actively recruiting experts such as solicitors, barristers and seasoned housing professionals to deliver our diverse range of courses and webinars on housing and homelessness law, welfare benefits, debt and professional skills.

We deliver over 1,000 training sessions per year to delegates from hundreds of different organisations, including more than 90% of English local authorities, a wide range of voluntary and advice agencies, student advice centres, law centres and housing associations.

We welcome applications from trainers interested in both online and face-to-face delivery, although we are particularly keen to hear from people available to travel in order to deliver in-person sessions (especially to the North and Midlands).

Currently, we are looking for trainers specialising in:

  • Housing and homelessness law

  • Running a housing/homelessness caseload (requires current or recent legal practice experience, including attending court and preparing bundles)

  • Mental health and housing

  • Disability and housing rights

  • Housing and complex needs, dual diagnosis

  • Cuckooing and housing options

  • Hoarding behaviours

  • Supported housing

  • Gypsy and traveller law (related to housing)

  • Defending mortgage possession proceedings

  • Welfare benefits

  • Debt (consumer debt experts, ideally with mortgage knowledge)
