What this workshop covers
This online workshop will explore the benefits of trauma informed interviewing when working young people, and how to approach it. Many young people accessing housing services will have experienced some element of trauma leading to housing problems.
This online event includes:
the possible sources of trauma and the impact on young people
setting up a meeting and setting boundaries for the interview
communication skills for facilitating the interview, focusing on the key information required from the young person
questioning techniques for young people and the limitations related to recalling traumatic experiences
closing a meeting safely

By the end of this event, you will be able to:
understand the impact of adverse childhood experiences and attachment theory which could impact the young person and their ability to engage
implement a range of strategies to facilitate a discussion with a young person in a safe and supportive environment
apply good practice to set up, conduct and conclude an effective meeting with a young person who has experienced trauma
positively influence a meeting to gain the best outcomes for a young person
