Rent to Rent scheme statement

Shelter has been made aware of one or more schemes which have claimed that Shelter are either acting as guarantors or will be placing tenants in rented properties. These schemes may be described as 'Rent to Rent', 'Rent 2 Rent', 'r2r hmos', and 'R2HMO'.

We would like to make it clear that Shelter have not at any time, and will not be involved in these or any other property investment schemes. Shelter does not directly place tenants in properties, does not own any residential properties and does not lease, let or rent any residential properties.

Claims that Shelter are, or may be, involved in these schemes are bogus and fraudulent. We will consider taking action against any individual(s) or organisation which uses Shelter’s name to promote, encourage investment in, or add legitimacy to a venture. We have notified Action Fraud of at least one scheme purporting to involve Shelter.

In 2022 we were made aware of more than one instance of an employee of ACH Investments Ltd (Company Number: 12368029) wrongly representing Shelter and issuing contracts in which Shelter were named as tenants in a rent to rent scheme, dating as far back as 2019. To again be absolutely clear, Shelter has not entered into any agreement, or had any dealings whatsoever with ACH investments Ltd, other than to issue a cease and desist letter to them through our lawyers, Bates Wells.

In December 2024, Shelter was made aware of another organisation, Impact Living, who purport to offer ‘government-backed investment opportunities’ in relation to social housing and supported living. Shelter’s logo, along with a number of other charities’ logos, is listed on their website under a section on partners that they claim to support. These logos have been displayed without authorisation. We would like to make it clear that Shelter does not have any form of partnership with this organisation. Shelter has written to Impact Living to request that our logo is removed from the website and any other materials where it is being used without permission.

If you have been approached by an organisation which claims that Shelter are using or are involved in a rent to rent or similar property investment scheme we ask that you let us know so that we can take appropriate action. You can get in touch via our supporter help desk by emailing info@shelter.org.uk or by calling 0300 330 1234.
