A corporate partner of Shelter

B&Q, along with its parent company Kingfisher, has supported Shelter since 2017. We have the shared belief that everyone should have a home they feel good about. Since launching our partnership, B&Q colleagues and customers have raised an astonishing £2 million for Shelter and Shelter Scotland, through in-store fundraising weekends, participating in our events, and selling Shelter Christmas cards in stores and online. B&Q colleagues and customers also support Shelter Cymru in Wales, Housing Rights in Northern Ireland, and Focus Ireland in the Republic of Ireland.

DIY Skills Advice programme

Shelter’s DIY Skills Advisers are helping people to gain fundamental skills to build a future. The programme helps people who have recently moved into a new home after a long period of homelessness. They also help people keep and improve their homes and avoid eviction. This includes people with a hoarding disorder.

The DIYSA team work with individuals to teach them important DIY skills including; painting, wallpapering, building flat-pack furniture and gardening. As well as support for individuals, the DIY Skills Advisers run skills workshops across the country to bring communities together. Since the partnership began, the DIYSA programme has helped over 1,000 households gain confidence in completing DIY tasks. We currently have nine DIY Skills Advisers based in Newcastle, Merseyside, Manchester, Sheffield, Birmingham, London, Bournemouth, and Bristol.

B&Q and Shelter ‘Break the Mould’

B&Q and Shelter joined forces on the 2022 ‘Break the Mould’ campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of leaving mould untreated and educate the public on how to eradicate it for good. As part of their mission to arm the nation with practical and easy to follow advice, B&Q enlisted the help of DIY queen Whinnie Williams for a video with tips and tricks to help people spot mould, remove it quickly and prevent it from coming back. B&Q also ran a Q&A with a DIY Skills Adviser on their social channels, as well as donating anti-mould products to Shelter Hubs.
