  • many will spend months – even years – in unfit temporary accommodation, with little or no support

  • parents fear for their children's health – and their fears are justified

  • over half of parents say that living in temporary accommodation has harmed their children's health

Every 12 minutes this Christmas, a family will lose their home. It doesn't have to be this way.

Your donation could help us be there when it matters most

When a family reaches a Shelter adviser, they find someone who will listen, support and fight alongside them for a safer home for them and their children.

  • answer an emergency call from a family facing the fear and uncertainty of homelessness

  • connect a parent to someone who will provide support now, and in the tough times ahead

  • help a family challenge unsafe housing and navigate a system stacked against them – so they can fight for a better home for their children

This Christmas, we'll be doing everything possible to answer a parent's urgent call for help.

How we help

No one needs to face homelessness or unsafe housing alone. Last year over five million people turned to Shelter for advice.

  • 16,721 households received support from our emergency helpline

  • 13,130 households came to our local hubs in England for support

  • 13,700 households who sought help saw a positive change in their housing situation

How you fuel the fight for home

We couldn't do this without you. For every £1 you donate:

  • 71p is spent directly on helping people through advice, support and campaigning

  • 29p is spent on fundraising
