Shelter agrees with Public Accounts Committee; homelessness a ‘national crisis’

Polly Neate, CEO of Shelter, said: 'Unfortunately, this report is yet another shocking reminder of just how bad our homelessness crisis has become. MPs from across the board have joined forces to urge the government to act, and they are right to do so.
'A chronic lack of genuinely affordable homes, combined with soaring rents and cuts to welfare, mean more and more people are becoming homeless. The Homelessness Reduction Act alone cannot be expected to solve the root causes of these problems, which must also be addressed.
'The government must now take heed of this important report, and tackle the causes of the crisis by building many more homes which are genuinely affordable for ordinary people to rent.'
