Shelter responds to Prime Minister’s commitment to ‘fix our broken housing system’ in Conference speech

Posted 06 Oct 2021

Polly Neate, chief executive of Shelter, said: “We’re pleased to see the Prime Minister commit to fixing our broken housing system and delivering homes people can afford in his Conservative conference speech.

“Across the country, the housing emergency is ruining lives. People are being pushed out of their local areas by extortionate private rents, and with house prices continuing to soar, most renters can't scrape together a sky-high deposit to buy.”

“If the Prime Minister is serious about ending the housing emergency, he needs to focus on genuinely affordable housing. That means delivering a new generation of quality social homes so families in every corner of the country can have a safe place to call home.”
