Shelter response to London Mayor's affordable home announcement out today

Posted 29 Nov 2016

Commenting on the Mayor of London’s plans to deliver 90,000 affordable homes for Londoner, Campbell Robb, Shelter’s chief executive, said:

“The Mayor’s plans to deliver 90,000 affordable homes for Londoners will be very welcome news to the millions of people struggling to keep up with sky high housing costs in the capital.

“Every day at our Shelter London hub we see the impact of the chronic shortage of affordable homes - with rents eating up huge chunks of people’s income each month, many are facing a constant battle to keep a roof over their heads. And at the sharp end, 88,000 children in the capital will be homeless and living in temporary accommodation this Christmas.

“We look forward to working with the Mayor to bring these plans to life and make sure that the homes built are genuinely affordable for Londoners to buy or rent long-term.”
