Briefing: Renters' Rights Bill Report Stage - Amendment NC11 (guarantors)

Landlords in the private rented sector can currently request that a prospective tenant provides a guarantor to secure a property. This can become a covert discriminatory practice, often employed in a targeted and exclusionary way against certain groups of renters. This amendment (NC11) would strengthen protection against discrimination in the private rented sector, by restricting the circumstances in which a landlord can legitimately request a guarantor.
