Consultation response: Home Office's New Plan for Immigration

Shelter’s response to this consultation focuses on the impact of the government's plans on housing and homelessness. The New Plan lacks adequate detail and clarity on the proposals which makes it impossible to provide a full and informed response to the consultation. As a general point, we are deeply worried that the proposals will result in a significant increase in destitution putting people, including children, at risk.

Shelter’s position is that the New Plan for Immigration will make the existing hostile environment worse for migrants living in the UK. Like many other organisations, we have grave concerns about the New Plan and the impact many of the proposals will have on those affected. We oppose the premise of the consultation and how the consultation has been conducted, but we are responding as we think it is important that organisations and individuals take part in the consultation.
