Fit For purpose? Policy discussion paper
With 12 per cent of the population living in the private rented sector, including some of our most vulnerable households, this policy discussion paper highlights that the primary purpose of the sector must be the provision of suitable homes for those who live in it. The paper examines how this aim might be achieved and proposes that the sector should be more accessible; provide enhanced security of tenure for those tenants who regard this as important; offer safe and appropriate housing conditions that protect the health and well-being of its tenants; and be underpinned by a positive landlord-tenant relationship.
