What this course covers

This training course includes:

  • legislation and what it means in practice for housing or support workers

  • awareness of different types of abuse, neglect, and exploitation

  • signs that someone may be being abused

  • stalking, domestic violence, female genital mutilation (FGM), honour-based violence (HBV), and high risks

  • how housing and support staff can work with other professionals working to promote better safeguarding and are part of a wider safeguarding partnership

  • sharing information effectively and with safeguarding in focus

  • reporting - how, when and what happens next - what are the points of intervention in someone’s life

What you'll learn

At the end of this training, you'll be able to:

  • demonstrate good awareness of types and signs of abuse, neglect and exploitation

  • understand general safeguarding matters (FGM, HBV, domestic abuse, forced marriage, stalking)

  • recognise the legislation around safeguarding interventions and how housing fits into this

  • work in partnership with other agencies and effectively share information to minimise risk and promote effective safeguarding

  • appreciate who does what and how other professionals work with you

  • report concerns and understand what may happen next
