Big Family Challenge

  • 4-8 August 2025
  • Registration fee: Free
  • Fundraising pledge: Try to raise £50

Get your family together for some fun and meaningful challenges this August, and help raise money for families facing homelessness.

With a mix of fitness, crafts, and outdoor activities, the Big Family Challenge is designed for parents and kids to enjoy together. Whether it’s fitness bingo, a window art challenge or a nature hunt, each daily activity gets kids thinking about home and community — while making a positive difference.

The best part? You can pick the challenges that suit your family and complete them in your own time - at home or outdoors.

How to get started

  1. Sign up for free: you’ll receive a digital support pack and fundraising guide to help you get started

  2. Pick your challenges: choose at least five fun activity challenges from the support pack. There’s something for everyone

  3. Get fundraising: set up a JustGiving page and ask friends and family to sponsor you

What you’ll receive

  • a support pack filled with a variety of activity challenges to choose from

  • a downloadable tracker to record and share your progress

  • personalised certificates for your family when you complete the challenge

  • fundraising advice and tips

Join us in defending the right to a safe home

With every activity challenge you complete and every pound you raise, you’ll be making a difference to people facing homelessness and unsafe housing.

Your fundraising could help families get urgent advice through our emergency helpline, support our vital webchat service, or fuel campaigns for a new generation of social homes.

Working with the team at Shelter, Natalie and her daughter Tia are now living in a social home:

‘Since moving into our home, Tia is happy, bubbly and loves meeting other kids. She feels rooted and it’s given her stability, she knows this is her home and that’s it. No child should have to be homeless or worry about their home being taken away from them.'

Natalie and her daughter Tia hug each other.
