Faith groups of all denominations fundraise for us throughout the year, helping families struggling with unfit housing and homelessness. Want to join them? Get our free fundraising pack to help you plan a service, meeting or fundraising event for Shelter.
Why fundraise for Shelter?
We stand with millions of people who are facing unfit housing or homelessness every year, through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We're here so that no one has to fight unsafe housing or homelessness alone.
Fundraising ideas for your faith group:
Cake sale
Get your best bakers together and create a cake stall after your service or meeting.
Celebrate Diwali together
Hold a small dinner or get-together to celebrate the festival of light and ask attendees to make a donation to attend.
Hold a Purim fancy dress competition
Challenge members of your synagogue and see who can wear the best costume at Purim. Why not fundraise by charging an entry fee per participant and ask the kids to judge who's the best dressed?
Classes and workshops
Do you know an expert florist or a wonderful woodworker? Ask them to lead a class teaching their specialist skill and ask for a donation for each person that attends.
Carol concert
Organise a carol concert with your congregation and ask for a donation to Shelter at the door. Bonus points if you throw some mince pies into the mix!
Community iftar
Holding an iftar is a great way to bring your community together as you break your fast during Ramadan, as well as raising money.
Give something up
Can't go a day without chocolate or a latte from your favourite coffee shop? Make an agreement with your faith community to forego something for a specified period and donate the money you would have spent to Shelter. You could even tie this in with a special time in your calendar, like Lent.
Hold a collection for Shelter
If you're sharing stories about housing, homelessness or Shelter's work as part of your time of gathering or worship as a faith group, why not have a collection basket available for people to donate on the way out? Count up the cash and send it to us to help fuel the fight for home.
Still not sure?
At Shelter, we're committed to being as inclusive as possible. If you don't see your religion or faith group represented on this page, please email us at faith@shelter.org.uk and we'll work hard to rectify this.
