Top celebrities including Olly Murs, Melanie C, Alan Carr and Plan B have raided their wardrobes to donate some of their fashion favourites for Shelter’s online auction.

Fans and fashionistas will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bid on signature items, including a trilby hat signed by Olly Murs and Stella McCartney boots donated by Chrissie Hynde.

The online auction will be open at shelter.org.uk/sheltershops from 9.00pm Tuesday 23 July, and run until 9.00pm Sunday 28 July.

Campbell Robb, Shelter’s Chief Executive, urged people to take inspiration from Shelter’s celebrity supporters: ‘We’re hoping that people across the country will follow suit and give some of their own pre-loved clothes to our shops so that we can help more people who need us.’

He added ‘There’s no easier way to help the families across England who are facing homelessness or living in bad housing.’

Shelter has over 100 shops across England, which take donations of second-hand clothes, books, homeware and household items. Everyone is encouraged to donate to a Shelter shop between Monday 15 July and Saturday 27 July, when they can enter a free prize draw to win one of five Fujitsu tablet PCs. Actress Jo Joyner, known for playing Tanya in Eastenders, said: ‘With homelessness now at a five-year high, Shelter has never needed your support more, so I’m proud to donate my dress. Let the bidding commence!’

Pop star Olly Murs, who has signed and donated one of his signature trilby hats for the auction, said: ‘I've donated one of my summer trilby hats to Shelter this summer. It's a great charity, so get bidding guys!’
