Vertical Rush runner

More than 850 runners joined a host of celebrities yesterday to take part in Vertical Rush, a tower running event for Shelter. Many thanks to all of them!

For the second successive year, Tower 42, the tallest building in the City of London, hosted the event, in which runners compete individually or in teams to make it to the top in the fastest time.

Setting off in hourly slots, chip-timed runners raced up the stairs to enjoy the spectacular views across the City.

Some famous faces participating included:

  • Soccer AM presenter Max Rushden
  • Matt Roberts, one of the world’s most recognised personal trainers
  • Hollyoaks and Red Bull Rivals stars Matt Littler and Darren Jeffries
  • Hollyoaks’ Emma Rigby
  • George Clarke, host of Channel 4’s The Home Show
  • Comedian Andi Osho
  • Bob the Builder

This year’s fastest male was Steve Winder, who ran it in a fantastic 04:54:00, an amazing 22 seconds slower than last year's Vertical Rush Champion.  The 2010 fastest female runner was Anna Frost of first female team Salomon MXR, in a fantastic 05:30:00.

Inspired by the famous Empire State Building ‘Run Up’ which takes place annually in New York, Vertical Rush 2010 aims to raise more than £250,000.
