Nationwide’s secret santa

25 November 2010

Christmas presents

Nationwide employees across the UK are running a secret santa scheme with a twist this Christmas, by filling shoeboxes full of gifts for homeless families.

The building society is supporting six Shelter services across the UK which offer support to families that have been living in temporary accommodation, helping them to settle in permanent homes.

Staff give advice, information and practical assistance to enable families to overcome the effects of homelessness and establish themselves in their new home and community.

Karen Macvean, Shelter Bristol Housing Support Services Manager said:

‘The Shoebox appeal is a fantastic way of giving families who will be living in dire housing situations this Christmas a real boost. The generosity of Nationwide staff is so very much appreciated by every member of the family - including the adults who really don’t expect to get anything themselves.

‘On behalf of everyone at Shelter I would like to say a big thank you to Nationwide staff for really spreading some well needed Christmas cheer to our families’.
