The advice gap - a research report
People from black and minority ethnic (BME) communities experience a disproportionately high level of housing problems and homelessness, yet many do not seek help with these problems from housing advice and support services. Shelter commissioned this study to understand better how people from BME commmunities access housing advice and the barriers they face in doing so.
The study findings draw on the views and experiences both of users of advice services and of advice providers. The study involved face-to-face interviews with individuals from different BME communities across England and telephone consultations with organisations and housing providers working with these communities.
