How to deal with harassment from landlords or agents

Dealing with unwanted visits

If your landlord or agent harass you when they visit, make a note of:

  • what they said or did

  • how it made you feel

  • the exact time and date they visited

  • if anyone else saw what happened

Write it down or make a voice recording on your phone straight after the visit.

If it is safe, you could film or record your landlord's behaviour. Do not put yourself at risk. For example, record your landlord from behind a locked door.

If your landlord visits too often

Your landlord cannot usually come into your home unless you agree.

You have the right to 'quiet enjoyment' of the property. This means your landlord should not disturb you at home.

You have this right even if you do not have a written tenancy agreement.
