'No benefits' and 'no children' discrimination when renting

What is rental discrimination?

It is against the law for a landlord or agent to refuse to rent to you because you:

  • claim benefits

  • have children

This is discrimination.

If you think a landlord or agent has discriminated against you, you can:

  • ask them to reconsider

  • make a complaint

  • complain to a letting agent's redress scheme

  • report the landlord or agent to your council
