The government has announced the current ban on evictions by bailiffs will be extended until 31 March 2021. This comes as the latest research from Shelter shows almost 445,000 private renting adults in England have fallen behind on their rent or been served with some kind of eviction notice in the last month.

Shelter responds to government announcement of £3.5bn funding to help end the 'cladding scandal'

Shelter has responded to the government announcement of a further £3.5 billion to help end the 'cladding scandal'. Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government Robert Jenrick MP said leaseholders in high-rise blocks (above 18 metres) will face no costs for cladding remediation work. Those in low and medium-rise blocks will never have to pay more than £50 a month for cladding removal work. To help fund the scheme, the government will impose a new tax on residential property in the UK.
