What this course covers

Face to face and webinar training includes:

  • the housing rights of student occupiers, including excluded occupiers, assured shorthold tenants and other tenancies

  • when students can claim universal credit, including housing costs

  • how local authorities can help if someone is homeless or threatened with homelessness

  • homelessness application tests, including priority need, and vulnerability

  • advice for students facing possession proceedings

What you'll learn

At the end of this training, you'll be able to:

  • understand basic security of tenure rules for students

  • understand when a student can claim universal credit or other benefits to maximise their income

  • understand when students are entitled to homelessness assistance

You don't need any prior knowledge of housing or homelessness law for this course.

You might be a student adviser, support worker or student union officer who needs to deal with housing or homelessness problems.
