Phased reopening of Shelter England shops

Following government guidelines, our Shelter shops in England are now closed.

Thank you for supporting us this winter to help the thousands of people who face the threat of eviction and homelessness. Although we’re now closed, you can still buy our range of Christmas cards, emergency chocolate bars, virtual gifts, and Christmas crackers from our online shop.

Online shop

If your local shop remains closed, you can still shop with us online. Please note that we have paused selling our clothes through eBay for now.

Donations

Our shops are now accepting donations again. You can bring items you’d like to donate to any of our shops, or send them to us using our new pack and post scheme.

Safety

Safety is our biggest priority for our staff, volunteers, donors, and customers. Therefore we have implemented the following changes.

Increased cleaning

All shop staff and volunteers have been equipped with gloves, masks, disposable aprons, facial tissues, and face visors to make sure that we maintain the highest level of hygiene at this time. We’ve implemented a perspex counter guard on all tills and a hand sanitiser station will be available at entry for all customers who enter our shops.

All shops will adhere to social distancing

Our shops will limit the number of customers allowed inside at one time and we’ll have signage ensuring that shoppers always keep two metres apart from each other. All frequently touched surfaces will be cleaned regularly throughout the day.

Stock is quarantined for 72 hours and all clothes steamed

Ahead of reaching the shop floor, all our stock is quarantined for 72 hours and all clothes are steamed.

A new limit of £45 for contactless payments

We’ve rolled out a new, higher limit of £45 for contactless card payments.

Electronic receipts and an extended returns policy

Our changing rooms remain closed, but we have extended our returns policy. We’re also offering electronic receipts in all shops to help reduce contact.

Opening hours may change, but our online shop is open 24 hours a day

To allow our staff to safely travel to work, our opening hours may change slightly, and this will vary from shop to shop. If your local shop remains closed, you can still shop with us online.
