Every child should have a summer that feels like a break

Select an amount

Welcome to the country's fastest-growing family destination: temporary accommodation.

Record levels of homelessness, growing waits for a social home, and the cost of living crisis mean that over 175,000 children have no summer holiday to look forward to.

Instead, they're spending it in cramped B&Bs, poorly converted offices, and other temporary accommodation. Some families have six people sharing one room, leaving little space to play, rest, or simply be a child.

This is not a home. And it is no way for a child to spend their summer.

What your donation could do

£35 could fund a webchat, providing expert housing advice.

£50 could fund a call to our emergency helpline.

£100 could help pay for legal advice to help a family keep their home.

Donate to Shelter today, and you could help a family facing homelessness find a home with the safety and space for kids to be kids.

I chose to support Shelter because the rising cost of housing has made stable living conditions increasingly out of reach for many... I want to be a part of the effort to change this and help create a more fair and liveable housing system for everyone.

How we help

We exist to defend the right to a safe home. We do this by:

  • running a free emergency helpline and online advice for people facing homelessness

  • offering local, in-person housing and legal support through our hubs

  • campaigning nationally to change the broken housing system

Helpline adviser Adam is seen across the office speaking into a headset

Last year:

  • 16,721 households received support from our emergency helpline

  • 13,130 households came to our local hubs in England for support

  • 13,700 households who sought help saw a positive change in their housing situation

'It had taken me over four years to get nowhere. When Shelter took it on, after just a month everything was changed.'
