Donate and help families facing homelessness

£30 could fund one call to our emergency helpline

401 households are made homeless every day in England

For thousands of people across the UK, this has been a difficult year. But this winter, many will face the added challenges of being stuck in unsuitable, unsafe temporary accommodation, or the very real prospect of losing their home altogether.

This year, Nationwide Building Society is fundraising for Shelter*. With your support, we could help find families in need of a safe place to call home.

*5% of money raised will be donated to Shelter Cymru in Wales and 5% to Housing Rights in Northern Ireland.

Helpline adviser, Jenny

"I’d like to say a massive thank you to supporters like you, everything we do is only possible because of you. Since I joined Shelter, I have been amazed by how much is done every day to fight for people’s right to a safe home. From the emergency helpline and web chat services, to the legal department which provides complex casework, everywhere I turn I can see what you’ve made possible. In this national housing emergency, as living costs soar, and vital COVID-19 protections like the eviction ban are ended, our helpline faces huge demand as people look to us for support and advice. I’m so grateful that together we can help and empower them. Please give again today and help us be there when it matters most."

We give people hope through expert advice and support. But we can only do this with your help. Will you give now?

Over 22 years of partnership

We’re so proud to be celebrating over 22 years of partnership with Nationwide Building Society.

Together, we've been changing lives for over two decades, working with the shared belief that everyone needs a safe and secure home. Thanks to the support of Nationwide colleagues and members, our partnership has helped more than 145,000 people dealing with unsafe housing and homelessness, influenced housing policy change and raised £8.5 million.

We want to continue to help people giving their all to find a safe home. Thank you for your support.

Donations won’t be restricted to any single project but will be used by Shelter wherever they’re most needed in our fight to defend the right to a safe home.

FIGHT FOR HOME

We exist to defend the right to a safe home, because home is everything. The fight to end the housing emergency starts here.

How we help

No-one needs to face unfit housing or homelessness alone. Last year over 5 million people turned to Shelter for advice.

  • 15,555 households received support from our emergency helpline

  • 15,846 households came to our local hubs in England for support

  • 12,900 households who sought help saw a positive change in their housing situation

How you fuel the fight for home

We couldn't do this without you. For every £1 you donate:

  • 79p is spent directly on helping people through advice, support and campaigning

  • 21p is spent on fundraising
