Giving £15 could fund a webchat providing essential housing advice

Nationwide and Shelter

We’re so proud to be celebrating 20 years in partnership with Nationwide Building Society.

Together, we have been changing lives for two decades, working with the shared belief that everyone deserves a safe and secure home. Since 2001, thanks to the support of Nationwide colleagues and members, our partnership has raised more than £6.7 million, influenced housing policy change, and helped almost 100,000 people facing bad housing and homelessness.

In our twentieth year, we want to continue to help those who need us the most.

Every two minutes, someone calls our emergency helpline

Nationwide is a long-term supporter of our helpline, which is a lifeline for so many. With your help we can continue to be there to prevent homelessness month after month.

A regular or one-off* gift from you will support our emergency helpline and online advice service, to help more people secure the safe, affordable homes they deserve. They will allow us to help people like Malak.

Give someone like Malak the hope of a better future

Facing homelessness and about to have a baby, Malak applied to her local council for accommodation. But she was allocated a dirty, cramped room in a hostel that wasn’t safe for her and her new child.

Malak managed to stay with friends until the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic hit, when sofa-surfing was no longer an option. Eventually, she was offered accommodation. But it was miles away from her workplace and family members, on whom she relied for childcare.

Desperate for support, Malak called our emergency helpline. Our advisers helped Malak to work with the council, and she was offered accommodation much nearer to work and family.

Malak’s new place is a hostel. It’s not ideal for a young family, but it’s an improvement on where she was before. We won’t stop working with Malak until we’ve helped her secure more suitable accommodation that she can finally call home.

Your help makes a difference

Your donation will go towards funding our emergency helpline and digital support service in England and Scotland.* In the unlikely event that the funds raised exceed our funding requirements for this service, your gift will be used to fund other areas of important work carried out by Shelter.

*If you make a one-off donation, 10% of your gift will be split equally between our partner charities Shelter Cymru in Wales (515902) and Housing Rights in Northern Ireland (NIC105735). These funds will not be restricted to a single project.

You can also donate directly to our partner charities: Shelter Cymru, and Housing Rights.
