Dylan is eight years old and is autistic and semi-verbal. He struggled to settle due to the lack of familiarity and space available in temporary accommodation. Dylan thrives on familiar routines, surroundings that promote calmness, and a quiet place when things become overwhelming. Temporary accommodation is failing to meet Dylan’s specific needs because he is frequently overstimulated and experiences dysregulation of his emotions as a result.

Sadly, Emily’s and Dylan’s story is not unusual. According to current government homelessness figures, it's estimated that at least 25,000 neurodivergent children could be living in temporary accommodation in England today.
