Hostels, bed and breakfasts, sofa surfing. None of these are homes.
Homelessness doesn't always start on the streets. It could start with a rent increase. A 'no fault' eviction. A relationship breakdown. Poor health. Things outside of our control.
This can lead to children becoming homeless in damaging temporary accommodation, sometimes miles away from their friends, schools and community and for much longer than would be considered 'temporary'.
Temporary accommodation was never intended to exist outside of emergencies, but it is now housing a record 131,140 households. The majority of households stay in temporary accommodation for more than a year.
It doesn't have to be this way.
