This is what homelessness looks like for thousands of families

£50 could enable a legal adviser to complete an application for legal aid funding

Hostels, bed and breakfasts, sofa surfing. None of these are homes.

Homelessness doesn't always start on the streets. It could start with a rent increase. A relationship breakdown. Poor health. Things outside of our control.

This can lead to children becoming homeless in damaging temporary accommodation, sometimes miles away from their friends, schools and community and for much longer than would be considered 'temporary'.

Temporary accommodation was never intended to exist outside of emergencies, but it is now housing a record 176,130 children. The majority stays in temporary accommodation for more than a year.

It doesn't have to be this way.

FIGHT FOR HOME

We exist to defend the right to a safe home, because home is everything. The fight to end the housing emergency starts here.

How we help

Last year:

  • 16,721 households received support from our emergency helpline

  • 13,130 households came to our local hubs in England for support

  • 13,700 households who sought help saw a positive change in their housing situation

How you fuel the fight for home

We couldn't do this without you. For every £1 you donate:

  • 71p is spent directly on helping people through advice, support and campaigning

  • 29p is spent on fundraising

Pie chart showing that 71% of donations is spent directly on helping people and 29% is spent on fundraising.

Your donation won’t be restricted to a single project but will be used wherever it’s needed most to help those fighting for their right to a safe home.
