The Great North Run is the world's most popular half marathon, with 60,000 runners every year.

Starting in Newcastle, the city-to-coast route takes you across the famous Tyne Bridge and past Gateshead Stadium. After a few challenging hills, you'll reach the stunning seafront finish line in South Shields.

When you run and fundraise for Shelter, you'll be defending the right to a safe home for everyone.

Already have your own place?

If you've already secured a spot, you can use your place to fight the housing emergency by running and fundraising for Shelter. We'd love for you to join the team – please get in touch.

The Shelter Events team at the cheer point, wearing Shelter T-shirts and holding banners. One person holds a megaphone and he reaches out to give runners high-fives.

Every mile, every drop of sweat, and every pound you raise will make a difference to people facing homelessness and unsafe housing.

Your fundraising could help families get urgent advice through our emergency helpline, support our vital webchat service, or fuel campaigns for a new generation of social homes.

'Thanks for a great day #TeamShelter and the amazing cheer squad at eight miles! It was a hot one but a belting day – and that run along the seaside at the end!'

Fundraising for Shelter

We recommend you start by setting up a fundraising page on JustGiving and asking friends, family and colleagues to sponsor you. You can also organise an event such as a bake sale or quiz. See our fundraising resources for more inspiration.

Please make sure you’re confident in reaching the fundraising pledge before you sign up. We invest in places at charity events and need to raise as much as possible for our fight against housing injustice.

Our friendly Events team are on hand to support you with your fundraising. If you have a question or want to talk through ideas, email running@shelter.org.uk or call us on 0344 515 1190.
