Hike for home this April and take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge. Join Shelter's guided trek in the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is one of the prime walking challenges in the UK. It's a demanding but highly rewarding circular route, covering over 24 miles and 1,500 metres of ascent. The challenge is traditionally completed within 12 hours.

Starting from Horton-in-Ribblesdale, you'll tackle the three iconic summits of:

  • Pen-y-ghent (694 metres)

  • Whernside (736 metres)

  • Ingleborough (723 metres)

Get ready to push your limits and be part of the fight for housing justice.

Preparing for the challenge

The Yorkshire Three Peaks is a very tough challenge. It will be a long day of hill walking, with three steep climbs and difficult terrain in places.

We'll be accompanied by experienced mountain guides, but you need to have sufficient training. We'll provide you with a bespoke training plan when you sign up.

When you take on this challenge with Shelter, you'll get:

  • a professional mountain guide

  • a bespoke training plan

  • expert advice and support with your fundraising

Fundraising for Shelter

A wooden sign in the countryside that reads 'Yorkshire Three Peaks' and points along a pathway.

By signing up, you commit to raising at least £300 to help fight the devastating impact of the housing emergency. Please make sure you're confident in reaching this fundraising pledge.

We recommend you start by setting up a fundraising page on JustGiving and asking friends, family and colleagues to sponsor you. You can also organise an event such as a bake sale or quiz. See our fundraising resources for more inspiration.

Our friendly team are on hand to support you with your fundraising. If you have a question or want to discuss ideas, email community@shelter.org.uk.

How your fundraising helps

Every pound you raise will help defend the right to a safe home for everyone. Our experts offer advice, advocacy and free legal aid to people facing housing issues or homelessness.

  • £23 could fund a webchat, providing essential housing advice

  • £58 could answer two calls to our emergency helpline

  • £157 could pay for legal advice to help a family in crisis keep their home
