Benefits and debt
Debt and Breathing Space
This introductory course provides a general overview of debt. It teaches delegates how to identify a priority or non-priority debt, solutions for dealing with debt, how to formulate affordable offers of repayment, an overview of Breathing Space regulations, and awareness of other debt support available.
Delegates will learn how to use the Standard Financial Statement and spending guidelines to prepare budget sheets for clients. This is especially useful when preparing offers of repayment to creditors, landlords and mortgage lenders to avoid court proceedings (or to submit as part of court proceedings).
This training is suitable for anyone who needs a basic understanding of debt, or prepares financial statements for clients as part of their role.

Housing and homelessness
Security of tenure and eviction
Provides a basic understanding of the different types of tenancy available in England and how the eviction process works.
Delegates will learn about the possession process in England; the hierarchy of the court system; relevant case law; types of tenancy within a housing related service and in the social housing sector; how tenancies can be ended ; what defences are available to tenants; and how to prevent homelessness.
Suitable for housing advice and support workers, as well as local authority staff who are new to the role. Also serves as a valuable pre-learning resource for those planning to attend a trainer-led session.

Support with homeless applications
Provides a basic understanding of the homeless application process.
Delegates will learn about the hierarchy of the court system; how to make a homeless application; relevant case law; who can make a homeless application; Local Authority homelessness duties; how decisions are made and how to review them; and how to support someone with a mental health condition regarding priority need and the wider application process.

Community care and housing
Provides a basic understanding of Community Care and Housing in England.
Delegates will learn about the principles that apply to an assessment under the Care Act and the relevant case law/legislation; carers assessments, care plans and exclusions; and the ‘Wellbeing Principle’ within the Care Act 2014.
