Homeless rights checker

Find out what homeless rights someone has based on their immigration or residence status.

This includes whether a person making a homeless application to a local authority is likely to be eligible for assistance under Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996. Local authorities have a duty to help anyone who is eligible and either homeless or threatened with homelessness.

The tool also covers help from social services under the Children Act or Care Act.

The tool:

  • takes about five minutes to complete

  • gives an answer within three clicks

  • provides legal references at the end of each answer

Some people might have more than one immigration or residence status. A different status might mean they have more rights. Complete the tool again if this applies.
