Seminar: Vulnerability in debt collection and enforcement

Assessing vulnerability has become a key issue in debt recovery and has been a statutory duty for enforcement agents since 2014. Legislation gives no precise definition of the term, which often leads to uncertainty about its scope. Whilst a list of categories permits quick decision making, vulnerability should be understood as a process, not as a label, and that creditors and agents can create it just as much as recognise it.

This online seminar provides an overview of the statutory significance of vulnerability; the many definitions of a vulnerable debtor; the responsibilities that both creditors and enforcement agents have in responding to vulnerable clients; and the practical elements in advocating for vulnerable individuals.

This intermediate-level seminar is suitable for delegates familiar with the debt recovery and enforcement process, including debt advisers, money advisers and support workers providing debt support to clients.
